Founded by Alex Aabedi in 2013, CurveSetter is among the fastest-growing MCAT prep services in the world. Alex has been a leader in academic tutoring, test preparation, and curriculum design for years. At UCLA, he maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his entire undergraduate career while expanding CurveSetter's original academic tutoring division. Alex took the new MCAT in 2015 after independently designing a 3-month self-study plan. Without having taken a number of pre-requisite courses, he achieved a 100th percentile score (524) and then began to offer MCAT prep services through CurveSetter, tutoring students across the United States, Canada, England and the UAE. He then went on to graduate first in his class both in the neuroscience department and the College of Letters and Science. Alex received medical school admissions offers from some of the highest ranked programs in the United States including UCSF, WashU, Duke, UChicago, NYU, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Mt. Sinai and more before withdrawing from a number of others with standing interview offers. He is currently a resident at his top choice - UCSF School of Medicine.

Chloe is an experienced tutor and teacher, most recently commanding a position as an introductory physics teacher for the AAP department at UCLA. She has extensive experience working with pre-med students who hail from disadvantaged backgrounds including english as a second language (ESL), low socioeconomic status, underrepresented minorities, and veterans. Chloe graduated with the highest honors from UCLA in 2017 with a degree in psychobiology, maintaining a 3.98 cumulative GPA. She took the new MCAT in Summer of 2016 and received a 526 (100th percentile), which is just two points shy of a perfect score. Chloe received acceptance offers from top medical programs in the U.S. including Johns Hopkins, UCSF, Columbia, U Mich, UCLA, UChicago, Vanderbilt, Northwestern and more. She is responsible for designing, recording, and writing content review for the biology, biochemistry, general and organic chemistry, psychology, and sociology portions of the MCAT. History of CurveSetter

2013
  • CurveSetter is born! Originally CurveSetter Tutoring, CurveSetter is founded by Alex Aabedi as an on-campus tutoring service for pre-medical students at UCLA.
  • Alex graduates UCLA at the top of this class with a degree in neuroscience, while tutoring students the entire time.
  • While tutoring, Alex hones in on both his teaching skills and his ability to distill the most difficult subjects into simple, digestible concepts.
  • Demand is so high for his tutoring, that the idea for an online platform begins to percolate.
2015
  • AAMC releases the new edition of MCAT that revolutionizes the way the exam is presented.
  • Alex is frustrated that the existing MCAT prep programs are slow to match the style and requirements of the new MCAT format.
  • He masters the exam, scoring in the 100th percentile, with a custom strategy developed during an intense summer of MCAT Study.
  • Alex begins to share his MCAT strategy with his peers via 1 on 1 tutoring and sees immense success across local college campuses in Los Angeles.
2018
  • Alex decides to create his own online tutoring platform, CurveSetter Tutoring, and fuse what he has learned about in person tutoring at UCLA with the advantages of unlimited online reach. Alex takes on students from all over the world.
  • Alex finds his ability to tutor limited due to responsibilities of medical school at UCSF, leading him to search for new ways to reach more students without needing to be physical present at all times.
  • Frustrated with the lack of a low cost, accessible online option for an MCAT prep course, and driven by his passion to reach more students and spread his novel teaching methods, Alex begins to contemplate creating an online MCAT course of his own.
  • The problem with MCAT prep, Alex reasons, is that paid online courses are too expensive and free resources are not well curated and are often disorganized.
  • Beginning in 2018, Alex begins collaborating with Chloe Cattle, a 100th percentile scorer, and fellow UCLA Graduate, to develop the CurveSetter MCAT course. During this time, Alex continues to attend UCSF Med School.
2021
  • After enrolling 1000’s of students over the scope of 3 years, Alex decides to re-invigorate the CurveSetter brand and take on the entrenched Test Prep Titans. The time is right to move from niche MCAT prep course to an industry standard.
  • CurveSetter re-launches the brand and website with the intent of expanding domestic enrollment, increasing international reach, and pursuing the company mission statement of making the highest-level MCAT tutoring accessible to everyone.
  • Further development of the CurveSetter course continues with the addition of 1,000’s of spaced repetition ANKI Flashcards and additional course material.
  • The CurveSetter team continues to work hard on producing the highest-level MCAT prep content for our students. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for us all!

I’m really happy I came across CurveSetter after having wasted time and money on the big name programs. the lectures are super high yield and cover everything you need to know and the discussion boards help clarify anything i have questions on. they answer chats/emails typically within hours which is amazing. its honestly better than having an in-person course because you save time and you get to interact with top scores

The UWorld access that comes with the course def helps with practice questions however I wish the course would focus on exam taking strategies as well, the content is great though! thank you guys and keep up the great work guys. CurveSetter is a great MCAT prep tool, and the videos are very helpful in reinforcing concepts from all the major content areas. The videos going through sample passages from all four sections were also helpful for figuring out test-taking strategy. This course does require a lot of self-discipline, which can be challenging, but it is definitely a great value at a great price!

CurveSetter helped me understand foundational concepts and made me much more confident with the material. As a non-science major, I felt extremely lost when I started studying, but Chloe breaks down the sections in such manageable (but extremely thorough) chunks and walks through each of the AAMC topics. It's really hard to find a course that can beat this one. First off the price is unprecedented. its cheaper (by thousands) compared to any other course available. Also, their teachers are actually med students. Every other course has random people teaching it and when you ask them questions outside the lesson plan they have no idea how to answer it. These guys mentor your throughout the whole process and you can feel it from the minute you enrol.
